Our mobile education unit
School Mobile Eezy Breather Programme
Asthma Auckland has developed a thrilling new initiative that uses a mobile education unit, donated by Remuera Lions, to visit schools on a monthly basis offering 3 + visits to students and their parents. An asthma nurse educator, who works in conjunction with the school nurse or school staff, operates the unit. Schools are invited to participate in the programme. They arrange appointments for the educator who then liaises back with the school nurse, school doctor or the patient’s own doctor. Education sessions are undertaken in small groups of 2 - 3 children or on an individual basis.
All
the schools have an asthma emergency kit and education is also given
to the teachers on asthma. The schools are either working towards or
are smoke free. They are also made aware of the various asthma triggers
that could affect children or staff during school hours, such as the
mowing of lawns and fields.
